The Wimbledon 2021 tournament is one of the most prestigious tennis championships in the world. It is among the four major Grand Slam events in tennis. The other three are US Open, Australian Open and French Open. The All England Club, London, hosts the Wimbledon tournament.
Wimbledon 2021: Men’s Singles
The Men’s Singles final was held between Novak Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini. In the tournament, Novak Djokovic defeated Matteo Berrettini. The scores of each set are as follows: 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. As you can see, Djokovic lost the first set in 70 minutes, but later on, he picked up the pace. He showed his mettle in the last three games. This historic win led to Novak Djokovic’s sixth Wimbledon. Moreover, it is his 20th Grand Slam title.
Roger Federer, the eight-time Wimbledon winner greeted Djokovic, “Congrats Novak on your 20th major. I’m proud to have the opportunity to play in a special era of tennis champions. Wonderful performance, well done!”.
Rafael Nadal, the thirteen-time French Open winner says, “20 Grand Slam titles is huge and it is amazing that we are three players tied on this. Well done and congrats to you and your team!”
Women’s Singles 2021
The Women’s Singles title saw Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova competing against each other. On Saturday, Barty won the title by defeating Czech player Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 in the game. The 25-year-old has become the first Australian woman to claim the title in 41 years.
Barty idolizes Evon Goolagong, who had won her second All England Club title in 1980. After the trophy got presented to Barty, she says ‘I hope I made Evonne proud. This is incredible.’
The other Wimbledon 2021 champions in the Gentlemen’s Doubles category are Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic. In the Ladies’ Doubles event, Su-Wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens claimed the title. This year Sameer Banerjee, an Indian origin person won the Boys’ Singles Wimbledon Tournament.
