5th August 2021 is being hailed as a historic day, considering the fact that the Indian men’s hockey team won a bronze medal today. Adding another achievement to the brilliant Tokyo Olympics campaign of India, Ravi Kumar Dahiya won a silver medal.
He defeated Kazakhstan’s wrestler Nurislam Sanayev to enter the final round. Sanayev is a former World Championships silver-medallist. The Indian wrestler was trailing behind by 2-9 in the semifinal match, but against all odds, Dahiya secured his place in the final match with a victory by fall.
Silver Clinching Wrestling By Ravi Kumar Dahiya
The 23-year-old wrestler confirmed a silver medal on 4th August after his win in the semifinal match. He faced the Russian Olympic Committee’s Zavur Uguev today. Both the wrestlers put up a spectacular show of grit. Uguev took an early lead of 2-0. Dahiya came back with solid 2 points, thus equalising the score. Furthermore, Uguev went on to grab another 2 points. In the later half, final score stood as 7-2. Ravi made a comeback, taking the score to 4-7. However, he lost the match to Uguev.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya has proved himself as a promising wrestler by clinching silver in his debut Olympics. He is the fifth Indian wrestler to win an Olympic medal after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Sakshi Malik.
