The Taliban is an infamous terrorist organisation and the people behind this terror group are mostly Sunni Pashtuns. This group had captured Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan in 1996. They are also the ones who safeguarded Osama Bin Laden. He went on to plan terrorist attacks on America on September 11th 2001.
The terror forces’ presence in Afghanistan for the past two decades have been a headache to both the neighbouring countries and the superpowers. Things were a little under surveillance when the US base was operational in Afghanistan. Recently, the President of the USA, Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan. Biden says, ‘When I announced our drawdown in April, I said we would be out by September, and we’re on track to meet that target. Our military mission in Afghanistan will conclude on August 31st. The drawdown is proceeding in a secure and orderly way, prioritizing the safety of our troops as they depart.’ Currently, the situation has become tense as the Afghan forces are unable to tackle the Taliban.
Taliban Acquiring The Centre-Stage
Maximum regions of northern and western Afghanistan are now under the Taliban’s rule. Accepting the circumstances, the Afghan government has offered power-sharing to end violent clashes. The USA is reluctant to step in. The Pentagon spokesman John Kirby says, ‘What we’re seeing, a deteriorating security situation, we’ve been nothing but candid about that. But there are places and there are times, including today, where Afghan forces in the field are putting up a fight.”
Meanwhile, China is ready to acknowledge the Taliban’s rule after the fall of Kabul. The terror group is harassing civilians, particularly people coming from minority sections and women. It is inching towards the capture of Kabul. From what is happening, Kabul is clearly under the Taliban’s reach. It could soon become accepted by China and Pakistan.
International Afghanistani cricketer Rashid Khan has expressed desperation in his tweet. He says, ‘Dear World Leaders! My country is in chaos, thousand of innocent people, including children & women, get martyred everyday, houses & properties being destructed. Thousand families displaced.. Don’t leave us in chaos. Stop killing Afghans & destroying Afghanistan. We want peace.’
