Michael K. Williams Found Dead in His Apartment

Michael K. Williams was a familiar face in the entertainment industry. His most loved character was of Omar Little, a queer street robber working for a drug gang, in a Television series named ‘The Wire’. Reportedly, the 54-year-old actor was found dead in his apartment in the New York City.

As per sources, Williams was lying in the dining room of what is said to be his luxury Williamsburg pad. His body was apparently unresponsive while being face-down.

The law enforcement officials suggested that the actor died as a result of heroin overdose. Additionally, heroin was also discovered in the kitchen table of the late actor.

One of the relative of Michael K. Williams confirmed that while speaking to him, Williams talked about attending an event on Saturday, but he didn’t show up there.

On Monday, the relative tired to reach out to Williams as he visited his house. Eventually, before 2 p.m. (1800 GMT) a person called police to 440 Kent Ave while citing the emergency of a man who is oddly ‘cold’ and ‘unresponsive’.

The late actor’s body was first spotted by his nephew. It is likely that Williams died due to a drug overdose. When the police officials came to his residence, the declared him dead at 2:12 p.m. However, there is an absence of clarity regarding his correct time of death.

The police states that there was no other party involved. A police source says, “No foul play indicated. No forced entry, the apartment was in order.”

Michael K. Williams has recently received an Emmy nomination for his outstanding performance in a HBO drama series, ‘Lovecraft Country’. His other major appearance is in the HBO series, ‘Boardwalk Empire.’

Remembering Michael K. Williams

Peters, an actor who starred as Lester Freamon in ‘The Wire’, said he “didn’t know whether to be sad or angry” after hearing the untimely demise of Michael.

He told Today Programme, “I’m sad that Michael is no longer with us because there was a very promising personality that could have done so much more.:

He adds, “I’m angry because I feel he’s let us down by going back when he could have reached out. Once a person is on that path, maybe it is very difficult for them to get off. So we, as a society, have to pull our socks up so we can help people like this.”

Hollywood singer Mariah Carey shared a picture of her standing with Williams on Twitter. She writes “a beautiful soul, a beautiful person”. She added: “I’ll miss you always. Thank you for blessing us with your talent.”

Another co-star of Williams, Edward Norton, who shared screen with him during the filming of ‘Motherless Brooklyn’ in 2019 took to Twitter.

Norton tweets, “I feel punched in gut to learn we’ve lost Michael K Williams. Soul anguished. Getting to work with him was one of the greatest privileges I’ve had in my career. My admiration for his talent was boundless, like so many. If he was in a scene he was the best thing about it. Period.”

In his next tweet, he writes, “He had a really rare gift for being fully present in the moment & for conveying the layers under the words. He ran so deep. He was also kind & generously enthusiastic. I’ll be forever grateful that he graced ‘Motherless Brooklyn’ & that I got to share space & time w him. RIP”

Michael K. Williams Opens Up About His Drug Addiction

Michael K. Williams was also open about his struggle with drugs.

Speaking about the success of season one of ‘The Wire’, Williams said, “I wasted a lot of money, I started drinking and drugging again, and, at the end of season two, I was forced to move back to my projects and slept on a mattress on the floor.”

He further told a news platform, as he says “I was playing with fire. It was just a matter of time before I got caught and my business ended up on the cover of a tabloid or I went to jail – or worse.”
