Nishchith Umesh: Build the Momentum

Interview

Questions and answers

What was it about the construction industry that caught your attention as an entrepreneur?

The biggest inspiration came from my father who came from a construction background. Seeing him work independently stimulated me to build my own firm. I remember being awestruck with all the buildings as I walked on the road. It made me want to start something of my own and this spark kept me going.

Coming from a small village in south Karnataka, what were some of the major challenges that you encountered when you first moved to the UK?

I grew up in a city where there was every support but no opportunity to seize, so, when I stepped into the UK, I was on my own with no friend or relative to aid. The weather was also new for me but apart from that, I felt homesick. However, over time, I got used to it and worked to get better.

When did you first realise your knack for designs and architecture?

There was no first and last as my goal was very clear to me just since my childhood. My knacks on designs generated automatically since I led my childhood with my father working on sites which is where I got an experience from. My father’s construction working sites are my first school, not my degree.

Tell us about the most coveted project from your portfolio.

STONESBRIDGE DEVELOPERS has the fastest track record of providing and completing 10+ major projects and 20+ architectural designs just in 1.3 years over 5+ different cities. There were 2 projects that were designed extraordinarily and we felt were the most challenging. Maintaining it was difficult for us, but with the proper planning on time, we provided an efficient structure with higher quality standards and got awarded.

What are some of the major pet peeves in this line of work that most people don’t know about?

In our field, we don’t receive payments on time which often result in getting projects delayed. One more thing I’ll mention would be, hanging out plans from clients frequently to make them feel satisfied. It gets messy sometimes because people repeatedly tell us to rework certain aspects here and there.

What strategy do you put to work when your client changes the brief midway?

This situation is most common for us since no client sticks to their plans at once and changes their opinions during execution. Our first step is to talk the client through the strategy and make them understand the pros and cons. If in case, it is necessary to change the plan, we go through it and rebuild it since the client is the final decision-maker.

What is your procedure to evaluate success?

I think working smart and loving what I do always gives me a head start in the race. I wouldn’t say hard work brought me here, it’s only the hard times I faced that made me strong enough to face the aftermath.
