It’s surely a great start to the year for Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas as they have embarked on a new journey of parenthood. The couple welcomed a baby girl via surrogacy. This news came as a surprise for everyone as the actress made this announcement on Saturday midnight over social media.

The love story of Priyanka and Nick became the talk of the town as soon as the duo were confirmed to be dating each other around May 2018. Two months later, Nick made the most romantic move by proposing to the desi girl on her birthday and on December the couple tied the knot in traditional Hindu and Christian ceremonies in India. Priyanka, in her 2021 memoir, Unfinished, wrote, “He swept me off my feet,” and sharing more about her courtship she stated, “Once we started dating, I felt like I was being carried by a giant unstoppable wave.”

Vocal about family planning

As known to all, Priyanka puts her opinion with grace and when asked about her future planning in an interview to Vanity Fair, the actress responded, ‘I want to be a mother. By the grace of God it will happen when it happens, but we don’t want to do it in a hurry. Even after having kids, I will keep doing it on the work front.”  She also added, ‘I’m craving my family life. I’m craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn’t do because I was just ‘blinders on’ and working.’

In 2019, Priyanka said that having a baby was on her to-do list. “Buying a home and having a baby are on my to-do list. For me, home is wherever I’m happy, as long as I have the people I love around me.”

Priyanka was also seen talking about her child in Netflix’s show ‘The Jonas Brothers Family Roast’ last year where the actress roasted husband Nick and his brothers and had said, ‘We are the only couple who have not had children and so now I want to tell this in front of everyone that Nick and I are planning a baby.’

The good news

As Priyanka had already hinted about her family planning and her desire to be mother so it was quite expected that a good news would soon come and it certainly did come when Priyanka Chopra revealed, “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much”

Why Surrogacy?

As per the reports, the couple had been looking forward to welcome an addition to their family but their busy schedules made it little difficult for them. They got in touch with an agency to explore their options and were connected with a woman in South California who they believed was a good match.

‘Priyanka doesn’t have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it’s not getting any easier,’ the source said. ‘This is the woman’s fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her. ‘The baby had been due in April” but it was an early delivery as the couple welcomed the baby girl 12 weeks ahead of the due date and as such the child will remain under medical observation until she is fit to be discharged.

Wishes and Blessings poured in

With the news of the arrival of the baby girl, wishes and love began to be showered on the couple and the newly arrived. Bollywood celebrities like Neha Dhupia and Lara Dutta congratulated them while Lily Singh commented “Aye! Can’t wait to cuddle them.” The fans were also elated at the news as they poured love and blessings in profusion.

Recently, rumours of Nick and Priyanka’s split were doing the rounds but this news has certainly silenced them all.
