Questions and answers

Can you describe your journey with DBMCI  ?

My journey to upturn the fortunes of DBMCI was definitely not easy. Being an MBBS student, I was aware of the wants and requirements of a medical student. But to gain in-depth knowledge, I connected with other medical students to gauge their expectations from a perfect coaching institute. I understood that in order to provide following generation with career-fulfilling opportunities, DBMCI needed to accumulate the attributes that may help it adapt and thrive within the imminent world. Ever since this has been his guideline for all operations at DBMCI.

What was your inspiration to start the Institute?

The institute wasn’t started by me, it was my Father. And he himself has been a source of inspiration for me. I was just there to be at his side in his ups and downs like he is there for mine.

You had mentioned in your Ted talk that you survived bankruptcy. How has that phase of your life been?

That was indeed tough. But you know, tough times provide us with great learning opportunities. I learned a lot of things about myself and people in general. There were people sticking by us at our lowest and celebrating with us at our highest. There were some who chose to leave and it is okay. The greatest thing I learned was to build your aptitude and skill. I polished my skills, had the courage to take a risk and reach where I am today. The practical and theoretical world don’t always go together. Focus on building your skills more, the degree wouldn’t suffice.

What were some immediate steps you had taken during your bankruptcy and how was it coping with it?

There were no immediate steps. The bankruptcy is never sudden. My family and I had learned to cut down our expenditures and satiate with the meagre income for approximately 3 years. We forfeited all our desires and luxuries. We knew we had to. So, these were some of the steps we were taking to cope up with it until it reached its nadir.

What are some lessons that the love of your life has taught you?

The love of my life has taught me that your team is your biggest asset. If you have a good team, you can survive anything. But if you do not have skills, you cannot survive anything. Apart from that, if you need to run a successful business, you need to partake in multiple fields and have one expert skill from where you can generate revenue. Until and unless you have that, you cannot run a business.

Being in the medical field for long, what are some changes that you strongly wish to bring in the field?

The one thing that I want in this field is financial literacy. The medicos are highly qualified but they lack financial literacy. They don’t know how to manage funds. I wish that a simple course to be offered for financial literacy besides the medical studies so that the students can really prosper with their medical knowledge.

What is the mantra to stay calm when things go out of your control/ haywire?

My mantra is actually to just stay calm. I always tell myself that I can do it. I can talk my way through people. Since I am a good speaker and that is one of my master skills. I use that ability to stay calm.

From going bankrupt to rebuilding yourself all over again, what has been the secret ingredient of your success?

I understood that my one expert skill is public speaking. And I have visited almost every college of India myself. We have 500 colleges in India. I have visited almost 400 of them. Presentations about my product, to understand what the student is feeling, to display myself before the students, and then to sell my product. You know, even after developing the product and everything, somebody needs to go out and market it. I think that can be labelled as the secret ingredient.

What are some core values that DBMCI stands first?

With the pure intention of teaching, one thing I realize is that you cannot run a coaching
institute unless you are involved with the students whole heartedly, academically,
emotionally, mentally and practically. Only then can you guarantee him the result. We coach the students for life, not just for an exam. That is out policy. The money we earn is
secondary.

What is the message that you would like to share to all our audiences?

If you have a dream, go for it. And do not stop in the middle, because whenever you are
thinking about those big dreams that you have, everything is possible. Trust me, I want to pat
that idiot back in time just for putting in a little effort and not giving up, no matter what.
