Bigg Boss fame Yuvika Chaudhary arrested

Yuvika Chaudhary, Bigg Boss 9 contestant, was recently booked under Scheduled caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in a 5 months old case. She was arrested on 18th October by Haryana Police. She was later granted interim bail.

Ashok Bishnoi, lawyer of actress Yuvika Chaudhary in a statement to ANI said, “My client has joined the investigation as per the guidelines given by the High Court and she is on interim bail now (in a case of alleged offensive remarks against Scheduled Castes on a social media platform).”

Yuvika had used a casteist slur back in May during a Vlog with her husband Prince Narula. In the viral video, Yuvika can be seen filming Prince, her husband, as he gets a haircut. She referred to a certain community and said he looks like them. The casteist remark did not go down well with the netizens and #ArrestYuvikaChaudhary started trending on twitter. Following this Yuvika apologized for the remark and said she did not know the meaning of the word.

“Hi guys I didn’t kw the meaning about that word wt I used in my last vlog I didn’t mean to hurt anyone and I can never do that to hurt someone I apologise to each n every one I hope you understand love you all”

-Said Yuvika Chaudhary while apologizing to her followers.

Later, an FIR against her was lodged by the Haryana Police upon a complaint by Dalit rights activist Rajat Kalsan. In October, Yuvika had moved to Punjab and Haryana High Court to quash the FIR. The high court bench refused to stay the investigation but sought a response from the Haryana Police.

She was arrested by the Haryana Police and interrogated for 2-3 hours. Later, she was granted interim bail.

Yuvika Chaudhary became famous in Bigg Boss 9 where she met Prince Narula. The couple later tied the knot. Yuvika Chaudhary has appeared in a few movies like Om shanti Om, Toh Baat Pakki, etc. She is married to Prince Narula, who is a winner of Roadies, Splitsvilla, Bigg Boss and Nach baliye. The couple have worked together in many music videos together. Yuvika Chaudhary had started vlogging during the pandemic.

June- An official complaint is filed against Yuvika Chaudhary under the SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act,1989 Hisar, Haryana.

2nd October-Yuvika Chaudhary moves to Punjab and Haryana High Court to quash the FIR against her.

18th October- Yuvika Chaudhary is arrested by Haryana Police.

18th October- Yuvika Chaudhary was granted interim bail.

 

Similar Incidents

Yuvika Chaudhary isn’t the only celebrity to be booked for casteist slurs. Recently, retired cricketer Yuvraj Singh was also arrested by Haryana Police for a casteist remark he made on Yuzvendra Chahal during a live with Rohit Sharma in June, 2020. He was granted bail after an interrogation of 2-3 hours. The Former cricketer had earlier expressed regret for the comment after the controversy and apologized for unintentionally hurting public sentiments.

Similarly, Munmun Dutta, popularly known for portraying Babita Iyer in the hit show “Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah”, used a casteist remark in one of her videos. She later apologized for the same after netizens pointed it out. She explained that she did not know the meaning behind the word and had no intention to hurt the sentiment of the community or of anyone else. An FIR was lodged against her but no arrests have been made so far.
