Flood in Dharamshala

The North Indian state, Himachal Pradesh witnessed cloud bursts followed by flash floods on Monday morning. Particularly talking about Dharamshala and McLeodganj, the visuals were horrifying. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh. The orange alert notified of heavy to very heavy rains for Monday and Tuesday. Furthermore, there is a yellow alert for 14th and 15th July in Himachal Pradesh.

Torrential Rain in Dharamshala

Recently, tourists thronged the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh, including Manali, Shimla, McLeodganj and Dharamshala. In light of this, the added pressure of adverse climatic conditions is proving difficult for everyone. Rain lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh. As per the images shared by the news agency ANI, numerous cars got swept away. These incidents are caught on camera. As a result of the speed and volume of rainwater, many vehicles were washed away. One particular visual that is doing rounds in social media is of Bhagsu Nag village. It is near Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala.

Meanwhile, a second video shows the rise in water levels coupled with the extensive speed in the Manjhi river. The river flows through Himachal Pradesh. For that reason, Shimla MeT director Mr Manmohan Singh has thoroughly instructed the general public on the safety measures. According to him, there can be landslides. Further, the uprooting of trees can also take place because of the downpour. Therefore, it is advisable for tourists and locals to not go near the river.

The Government’s Response

First of all, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Jairam Thakur, has demanded a report on the casualties and damages. With his tweet on Monday afternoon, he has ensured governmental help to the affected. Moreover, he has directed officials to carry out relief measures.

Afterwards, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the situation. In the conversation between CM Thakur and Amit Shah, the latter has extended the centre’s help. In addition to it, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams will be performing relief works.
