The theme of this year is based on the exhibition In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. It pays tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Amanda Gorman, the 23-year-old US Presidential inaugural poet, Timothee Chalamet, 25-year-old Dune actor, Naomi Osaka, 23-year-old tennis champion and mental health activist, and Billie Eilish, 19-year-old singer and songwriter, will be the hosts for Met Gala 2021. The co-chair of the gala will be Anna Wintour, Instagram head Adam Mossari and designer Tom Ford, who may also be the one to dress several coming celebrities.
The pandemic has made the guest list a little smaller than usual. The attendees have to show proof of vaccination and covid-19 negative test results. They also have to wear masks all the time, except while eating. A lot of reports have suggested that the guest list will be youth-oriented.

This red-carpet event will be live-streamed by Vogue at 5.30 pm (ET) and E! will be covering it on television. For Indian viewers, the live stream will be hosted by actor and recording artist Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer, who is an actor, writer and director. For Indian viewers, It will go live around 3:00 AM (IST) on September 14 on Vogue’s Twitter account.

It is announced that this year’s gala would be more “intimate” compared to past events—Due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is found that only about 400 guests will arrive this year at the Met Gala, and the attendee list is a secret up until the moment the doors open.
Also reporters have been doing their work to keep an eye on who’s coming this year. The New York Times recommends keeping an eye out for ASAP Rocky, Simone Biles, Lourdes Leon, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P. Henson. Other rumored guests include Jennifer Lopez, BLACKPINK’s Rosé, and Rihanna. Those expected to skip the event include Zendaya, Selena Gomez, and Dua Lipa.
- Is it safe to have the Met Gala right now?
This is ofcourse a debatable topic, but the event is taking several precautions to keep guests safe in every possible way. Those who are attending the event must be vaccinated and receive a negative COVID-19 test before admittance. Dinner tables for all the guests will be socially distanced, and guests must wear masks when not eating.
- Will the Met Gala again be organized in May 2022?
Yes. This year’s event signals the opening of the Costume Institute’s exhibit “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” while the second exhibit, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” will open on May 5, 2022, and it will have the 2022 Met Gala themed around it.
It is possible next year’s Met Gala will continue with the “American” fashion theme, but with adding more twist and spice to it.
