Questions and answers
You have performed at several open mics where you perform poetry. What motivated you to stand up on the stage and share your thoughts with the world?
Ever since my childhood, I have been very fond of poetry and literature. As a child, I loved to write and would scribble my poems in a secret diary because I was too shy to show them to anyone. When I came across the open mic platform, I decided to take a leap of faith and put my thought out there for the world to listen.
What do you think are the elements that make poetry a good open mic performance?
I believe that it is all about confidence and the way you carry yourself, but I also keep a few things in mind like rhythm, eye contact with the audience, necessary pauses, being in your character while reciting my poem, and remembering your lines are some of them.
Which is the favourite piece of poetry written by you and what is it about?
One of my favourite poems is “The pursuit of happiness”. Even today I go through that poem on my worst days, because it is one such piece that talks about the early struggles of a lot of successful people throughout the world. People only notice the success but nobody notices the struggle and hard work behind it. This is what my poem talks about. That poem gives me the motivation and strength to believe that even I can get through a rough patch like so many others.
You post daily wisdom videos on your page. What was the motto behind this?
Wisdom for the day is something that I started recently and it’s like an energy pill that I want to offer to everyone who follows me on social media. I want to build a community of positive people, avid meditators and entrepreneurs. Wisdom for the day is that ray of hope that will tell you “that hey you will make it and nothing is impossible if you work towards it, and good things are coming your way.”
How do you come up with new and innovative ways to talk about issues and spread positivity?
I have been in the habit of meditating for a couple of years now, and it has helped me maintain a routine. I wake up every day, meditate, write down my goals, observe what’s going around me and try to put my best on the table. Also, I consume a lot of content and research a lot that helps me boost my creativity. Meditation has been very helpful and I also believe that when you are in a calm state of mind, you are at your creative best.
Can you tell us about “Uski Kahani Meri Zubani”?
It was one of the first pieces of content that I put out on social media. I was so horrified after the incident that I started crying. I didn’t want it to become just another headline and people to gradually forget about it. So, the moment I heard about it I put down all my thoughts on a paper. Then I went to an open mic and presented it before the audience and the response I received was amazing so I decided to post it on social media. I tried to contribute and raise my voice to describe what she must have gone through.
Apart from spreading daily motivation to other people, how do you find your own motivation and inspiration?
There is a myth that people who are positive on social media don’t have their share of rainy days. I also have my share of bad days but I try to push myself through those days and not give in to laziness. I remind myself about my goals. Also discipline has played a huge role in my life. For me, discipline is a choice between what you want now and what you want the most and I always go with the second choice of what I desire the most. Also taking breaks every now and then helps me rejuvenate my creativity. Thus, I’ve tried to find a balance between discipline and breaks.
