The Indian Olympic campaign reached a new milestone on 5th August 2021. As the Indian men’s hockey team gave a stunning performance against Germany. The match was scheduled for deciding the bronze medal winner in the men’s hockey Olympic games. The fierce competition between Germany and India kept everyone hooked till the last minute of the final quarter.
Defeating an adamant German side, the Indian men’s hockey team clinched the bronze medal. Thus, they ended 41 years long medal drought in hockey.
Skipper Manpreet Singh says, ‘And, now the long waiting dream has been fulfilled. This was a collective effort, from all the players, coaches and support staff. Their unrelenting backing has resulted in a positive outcome today. I dedicate this victory to the COVID warriors, who have been working relentlessly to save lives. This medal came after 41 long years and I’m confident that my team will continue to improve and perform better in the upcoming events also.’
Wishes Pour In For The Indian Men’s Hockey Team
Hockey was slowly becoming unpopular both domestically and internationally for India. Indian Hockey has seen a glorious era before. However, with the win against Germany by 5-4 and the jaw-dropping performance of women’s hockey team; the scenario is expected to change.
Congratulating the team, PM Modi tweeted, ‘Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team.’
The Prime Minister also spoke on a call with the skipper and coach Graham Reid. He says, ‘Many many congratulations. The team has done a marvellous job. Entire nation is dancing.’
