Kangana Ranaut’s statements starts a row, again

Kangana Ranaut, the self-proclaimed Queen of India, has become the talk of the town, again. Interestingly, the actress is again buzzing on trending sections of different social media accounts at a time when none of her movies is scheduled to be released. But this is not the first time either. So, one must not be surprised.

Kangana Ranaut who has been banned by the social media site Twitter for her “incendiary right wing” tweets has found another way to get to its trending section.

A video was posted by politician Varun Gandhi of Kangana Ranaut speaking at a summit where she said the Indian Independence of 1947 was given to us in “bheek” and “real independence” was achieved in 2014, the time when current Prime Minister Narendra Modi came into power.

Kangana was recently given a Padma Shri award by the Modi-led government. The actor also received her fourth National Award for her performances in the movies Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and Panga. Kangana is known for her outspoken behaviour and her polarising views on the issues concerning the nation.

While tweeting the video Varun Gandhi slammed her and wrote in Hindi, “Insulting the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi sometimes, praising his killer sometimes, and now the disdain for the sacrifices of Mangal Pandey, Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and lakhs of freedom fighters. Should I call this thinking madness or treason?”

Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account has been permanently suspended but she took to Instagram to retort to Varun Gandhi’s comments. She wrote in her Instagram story, “Even though I clearly mentioned 1857 revolution first freedom fight which was curbed… which lead to more atrocities and cruelties from the British and almost a century later freedom was given to us in (Mr.) Gandhi’s begging bowl… Ja aur roo ab (go cry more).”

Police Complaint

A police complaint has also been lodged against Kangana Ranaut by Preethi Menon, the national executive chairman of the Aam Aadmi Party. Preeti Menon tweeted and informed that a complaint has been lodged against the actress to Mumbai Police. The Party condemned the remarks made by the actress and has requested for a charge of sedition be levied on her.

Menon tweeted, “The AAP strongly condemns the derogatory statement made by Ms Ranaut, claiming that India’s independence of 1947 was “bheek” and not real independence (sic).”

Interestingly, Varun Gandhi, who is an MP in the Modi-led BJP government, also thought of Kangana’s statement as insulting and seditious.

Past Controversies

Crusade for Sushant Singh Rajput

Following the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Ranaut offered to assist the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) with the case, claiming that the Raabta actor “knew some dirty secrets” and was killed for the same reason. She had also said that if the agency decided to investigate “Bullywood, many A-listers will be behind bars”.

Attack on Karan Johar

The actress also made a video after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput alleging that Karan Johar was the “the main culprit of movie mafia”. She also alleged that he was the reason why so many people’s career had been derailed and ruined and how she was next on the list.

Interestingly, Karan Johar received Padma shri in the same ceremony as Kangana Ranaut did recently. Apparently, the organisers made sure that the two do not come face to face during the ceremony.

Twitter ban

The actress was banned permanently following an incendiary tweet made by her in relation to the post poll violence in West Bengal. The actress asked the PM to show his “Viraat Roop” from “early 2000s” to “tame” Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
