Nida Khan : Art to the Rescue

Nida Khan, “It was July of 2019 when I got chickenpox. My doctor advised me to stay in quarantine. And the next thing I know, I was stuck in a single room for 28 days, all by myself.

Initially, it was great! But, as days passed, overthinking and anxiety hovered upon me. I’d wake up at 3 am feeling extremely anxious. Thoughts like ‘What am I even doing? Why am I wasting my time here?’ would be on my mind all day.

And one day, when mom came to give me lunch I told her ‘I’m all alone in this room. How will I survive? Please get me something that can keep me busy.’ She immediately bought me a bunch of art supplies. I’ve always been fascinated by colors. However, I was never good at drawing and painting. So, I decided to do fluid art instead.

Just a few minutes into my first piece and I was hooked! I’d try out various techniques and learn from YouTube all day. Nonetheless, the 3 am wake-up calls were still constant; but not out of anxiety this time, rather with enthusiasm to complete my art!

Coming out of that room, I wasn’t just a girl who recovered from chickenpox; but a girl who discovered the artist inside her. The first thing I did after the quarantine was to go and buy resin art supplies. Soon I started posting my art on Instagram. Receiving positive feedback made me realise art was more than a hobby to me. Sere by Nida was born!

However, things got a little busy since last year as I got placed as a homeopathy doctor. Things got hectic. All my day practically goes at the clinic. But, I’d managed to take time off for my art during the night.

Although, with all the clinic duties, weekend workshops, and customizing the artworks, I often get asked ‘Don’t you feel exhausted? ‘To which I always say –

A human left alone in a room with their thoughts may turn out to be toxic sometimes. But a human left alone in a room with a bunch of colors will always turn out serene.”
