Nirmal Kumar: From nothing to something!
All my life I have watched my parents toiling hard so that we get a good life. Amma worked as a flower vendor, whereas, Appa worked as a TV machinist. Despite their hardwork, it was hard for us to meet our ends. Most of the time, I used to lie to my friends about the life I was living but one can never run from their roots. At first, I was ashamed of my background but over the time Irealised how precious life is.
I had determined to give my parents a life that they always deserved. I made sure that one day I started studying hard and worked as a part-time delivery boy to uphold my parents. After graduating, the field of digital marketing intrigued me. I got into digital marketing and I was basking in my work. My coaches helped me accomplish my set goals. There were times when I made mistakes but I promised to never repeat them. When I received my first salary, I bought a saree for Amma and a pant shirt for Appa. The smile on their faces was priceless when they saw those gifts. We had never been to a hotel and when I got my first thousand bucks I took my family out for lunch. When I saw the sparkling eyes of my parents for the first time, I knew I had a long way from here.
Society noticed the changes in me, my family, and our status and started addressing us. None of my relatives had ever called my Amma in any of the gatherings because of her livelihood but now they were all inviting her happily. They even approached me to counsel their kids. A few months ago we moved from our small room to a 1BHK house. I earn a 6-digit income and have recently bought a Macbook that I had been yearning to buy from long.
Initially, I was embarrassed by my lifestyle but now I know that to get somewhere you need to accept where you are right now. After all, you cannot cherish your highs without embracing your lows.
