Running the extra mile with the Boston Marathon - Preet Singh

The Boston Marathon, the Mecca for runners, the Boston Dream, the Unicorn, it doesn’t get bigger or better than this! It is the oldest marathon in the world and this year it is the 124th edition of the same and is 1 of the 6 World Major Marathons- others being London, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, Chicago.

Due to the pandemic, this is going to be the first virtual edition of the race. It is going to be a unique yet completely new experience with new circumstances and a new atmosphere where runners can run anywhere around the world on a race course chosen by then at a time of their choice between the 5th and 14th September. I could safely say I feel fortunate to be still be a part of the event and in these unique circumstances.

I stumbled upon running as a sport in 2009, after a football injury forced me off contact sport. I ran my first marathon in Mumbai 2012 and then took a break till last year from the distance as it needed a lot of mental as well as physical endurance; something I felt I didn’t have at that point but I feel in the best mental space in all the years I have been running and big shout out and credit goes to the Adidas runners community, whom I have been associated with for over 3 years now.

Talking about the Boston marathon, race day is almost here- 13 September is the day I have chosen to run. The Boston Athletic association has left no stone unturned to make the experience enriching and fulfilling for all participants with an app which has race day sounds of cheering from previous editions specific to the kilometers you would be actually running through the course in the race.

I am nervous as well as excited as it is an entirely new experience altogether this time. I have the support of the entire community across Delhi NCR that makes it very exciting and memorable at the same time. while some of my friends would run with me and make sure I #finishstrong.
