On 5th July 2021, Roger Federer entered the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Therefore, he became the oldest man to do so. He is the first person to achieve this feat since the dawn of the Open Era in 1968. Roger Federer Expresses Concern Over Possible Covid Waves
As the Wimbledon organisers are welcoming crowds, Federer talked about his views on the pandemic. He says, ‘I’m still not a hundred per cent convinced that we are on the other side. I still think there is more to come. Last year in the summer, we also felt the same way, super positive, having a few cases here and there. It looked very promising then everything changed again later on in the year.’
Because the organisers are following the 50% capacity rule, it can be dropped now. This rule has been in force since the beginning of the Wimbledon tournament. As a matter of fact, Wimbledon was cancelled last year because of the coronavirus. Not to mention, it was the first time since the Second World War.
