Satish Kumar Fought with 13 stitches in the Tokyo Olympics

Satish Kumar is an Indian boxer who was competing in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. On 1st August 2021, Satish Kumar participated in the men’s super heavyweight Quarter -Final 1. His opponent was Bakhodir Jalolov, who is a world champion from Uzbekistan. Although Satish lost in the quarterfinals, he is being praised for his ‘Indian Army Spirit’.

The Indian boxer is the first super heavyweight player from India to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. He has won the bronze medal twice in the Asian Games.

‘My Chin Has Seven Stitches’ Says Satish Kumar

In an interview given to PTI, the 32-year-old boxer says, ‘My chin has seven stitches and my forehead has another six. Par marta kya na karta, I knew I wanted to fight. Otherwise I would have lived with that regret of what if. Now I can be at peace and also probably a little content with myself that I gave my best. “My wife had told me not to fight. My father also said that it is too much to watch me fight like this. That’s not unexpected, family can’t see you hurt. But then they understood that I wanted to do this.’

He further remarks, “That’s the whole idea of being a sportsperson. You don’t give up, you never give up.”

Looking at the boxer’s commitment, people began showing him support. Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar, who played the role of a boxer in his recent film Toofan, tweeted ‘Shout out to boxer Satish Kumar who showed the world what true competitors are made of. Actor Randeep Hooda also appreciated Satish Kumar by tweeting, ‘Thats probably known as “the fighting spirit” #SatishKumar brought the fight to the world Champion against great odds .. like true champions Bakhodir Jalolov acknowledged the effort giving Satish the right of way to exit by raising the ropes for him to exit first  #boxing
