Today was the 11th day of the Tokyo Olympic Games. India was eyeing the entry to the men’s hockey finals as well as the shot put qualifiers. However, the men’s hockey team faced a loss as they were beaten by Belgium. Now, India will have to defeat Germany to grab a bronze medal. Belgium quickly took the lead in the semi-final match today. Luick Luypaert gave his team an early advantage. The Indian team came back in the game when Harmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh helped India in taking the lead. But the game went downhill from then on. Alexander Hendrickx scored a hat-trick against India, consequently, India lost by 2-5.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor: Only Indian Competing in Shot Put

Tajinderpal Singh Toor is a 2018 Asian Games gold medallist. The 26-year-old shot-putter was the only Indian athlete to compete in the shot put Olympic event. He qualified for the Olympics with big throws of 21.28 m, 21.12 m and 21.13 m.

Although Tajinderpal Singh Toor was in the hope of a podium finish, his Olympic campaign ended within an hour on 3rd August 2021. Out of the three throws, he was able to successfully finish a single throw only. The remaining two throws were declared foul. His first throw is of 19.99 m. He ranked sixth after the first round but later as he committed fouls, his ranking went down to 13. Only the top 12 athletes are eligible to qualify for the finals.

Talking about the beginning of wrestling events in the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian wrestler Sonam Malik lost her first match. It is Sonam’s debut Olympics. She was leading the match with 2 points but in the end, Mongolia’s Bolortuya Khurelkhuu grabbed 2 points. The Mongolian player won however, the score was 2-2.

Tomorrow is a big day for the Boxing Federation of India as well as the sporting fraternity. India’s Lovlina Borgohain will take on Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli on 4th August 2021. The match begins at 11 A.M. IST.
