Subramanian Swamy says Modi Govt has failed
Subramanian Swamy, a Rajya Sabha MP of BJP, has always shown signs of discontent towards the Modi government on a number of issues ranging from finances, economy to security.
Mr. Swamy is known for having a perennially critical approach of the Modi government.

-said Subramanian Swamy while criticizing the Modi Government in the centre.
However, this time he might have crossed the line by attacking the Prime Minister while praising the “principal opposition” of the BJP, Mamata Banerjee.
“Of the all the politicians I have met or worked with, Mamata Banerjee ranks with JP, Morarji Desai, Rajiv Gandhi, Chandrashekhar, and P V Narasimha Rao who meant what they said and said what they meant. In Indian politics that is a rare quality”- tweeted Subramanian Swamy from his twitter account.
While the MP is known for showing displeasure, this time his reprimendation becomes all the more as he recently met with the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in Delhi.
Meeting with Mamata
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy held a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Subramanian Swamy laid speculations about him joining the Trinamool Congress to rest. “I was already with her (Mamata). There is no need for me to join the party,” he told reporters.
The meeting took place at TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s official residence in Delhi around 3.30 pm. Incidentally, on Tuesday, Swamy was in Kolkata, where he met West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of Mamata Banerjee and the National General Secretary of All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).
This meeting was followed by an appreciation post for Mamata Banerjee. While it is hearty to see a leader of opposing party praise the leader of another party, it is something hitherto unknown to us in Indian politics barring a few instances.
In the evening, Mamata also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where she flagged various issues, including the BSF’s territorial jurisdiction in Bengal. Briefing reporters about this meeting, Mamata reacted to her tete-a-tete with Swamy, saying: “He is a senior person, BJP MP. You can meet anybody if a person is interested to meet you. There maybe political differences but what’s the harm? This is our democracy.”
The principal opposition
Mamata Banerjee, the TMC supremo and incumbent Chief Minister of West Bengal, recently dealt a deadly blow to the Prime Minister’s BJP when she swiped the state of West Bengal under her colour and came back with a much stronger majority than last time.
This resounding victory against the omnipotent Bharatiya Janata Party nudged the Trinamool Congress supremo to establish herself as the rallying point of opposition against the BJP in centre as well.
This dream of TMC is also visible in her recent political activities related to expansion of the party. The party has set its foot strong in Tripura and Goa which are poll bound next year.
To make its existence felt, the party has been poaching and inducting a lot of old stalwarts of local politics into her party.
On Tuesday, the TMC inducted former Congress leaders Ashok Tanwar, Kirti Azad, and former JD(U) MP Pavan Varma as part of its push to register a national presence.
While on the front of the fight, we see Abhishek Banerjee, many believe that the man behind the push is Prashant Kishor, the political strategist who helped TMC sweep West Bengal. The strategist has worked with many political parties before including BJP in 2014. However, now he seems settled in TMC, at least for a while.
