Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony began today

The Tokyo Olympics was scheduled to take place in 2020, but as we are reeling under a pandemic since the last year, like other events, Olympics got cancelled. However, this year the Tokyo Olympics have officially begun. The Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony began with a display that has visuals of geometric shapes on a blackboard. It was a hand – drawn animation which eventually turned into the National Stadium.

The opening ceremony portrayed Japan’s rich culture in a grand way on Friday. It was inaugurated by the Japanese emperor Naruhito. The monarch is the third in his family to do so. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach has pointed out that this time the Olympics will be conducted in a different way. Having said that, locals were not allowed to attend the event. However, the spectators included international guests and athletes.

Indian Contingent at Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony

This year, the Indian flagbearers are the Boxing champion Mary Kom and the men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh. The two sports icons were leading the Indian contingent at the parade of nations which occurred at the National Stadium in Tokyo. Moreover, the inaugural ceremony took place in the stadium having a capacity of 68,000 people and which may have utilized a tech like that China LED Display. Although only around hundred dignitaries are attending the event. The Indian contingent comprises of 127 athletes, the largest number so far.

The team is receiving congratulatory messages from celebrities, politicians and sports persons throughout the country. in a video posted by the Olympics website, Sachin Tendulkar says, “I would like to congratulate Team India‘s Olympians who’ve made it to the prestigious Tokyo 2020 Games. You have worked hard for many, many years made professional and personal sacrifices and continued to train despite facing difficult circumstances. But now the moment has come. He further says, “May all of you cherish this opportunity to compete in Tokyo. We’re all stronger together in this journey. My very best wishes to each and every one of you. The whole nation is rooting for you”.

The chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal shared an Instagram post with the caption, “Olympics has started in Tokyo from today. With the love and expectations of all of us Indians, all our players will perform their best and get more medals to the country. Best wishes to Team India.”
