Meet Vinuta Sandeep, a woman who believes in exploring her roots in order to make a statement to the world

Vinuta Sandeep

Vinuta Sandeep opted to pursue her education in fashion after growing up observing her mother dabble in hand embroidery and other forms of artistic expression. The long maternity break made her struggle to fit into jobs. Hence, she owes it all to her mother who instilled in her a love for art and fashion.

Embroidery has managed to stay elegant and refined while fashion trends have evolved over time. The craft requires utmost patience and skill and mastering it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. She worked for a few years for a number of large corporations after finishing her studies but had to discontinue after the birth of her first child. She served as a fashion faculty member in one of the fashion schools in Vietnam, where she was given the opportunity to teach Aari embroidery, which has gained a significant following in the contemporary fashion industry. Vinuta accepted the opportunity despite having no professional training in aari embroidery, she traveled back to India, acquired the basics in a week, and began teaching students. She worked for a few years for a number of large corporations after finishing her studies but had to discontinue after the birth of her first child. The long maternity break made her struggle to fit into jobs.

She says “Never say never as the power lies within you”. Thus, she decided to shift her focus to teaching young students the art of Aari embroidery.

A staunch believer in “Create your own happiness”, she realized the need for online classes during the pandemic and now offers online courses as well, for Aari embroidery at both basic and advanced levels.  The pre-recorded videos are easy to understand for a beginner and thus, she has trained over 100 students in the same. Her proudest success, she feels, is organizing workshops in Vietnam and Myanmar and being featured in a Vietnamese magazine article on the in-flight magazine of Vietnam airlines. The designer also mentored a duo who participated in the New York Fashion Week 2022. Deciding the color palette, tracing the pattern, pulling the needle in and out dedicatedly, and embellishing the garment with stones, pearls, and sequins. Tada! Vinuta’s embroidery work is ready to be admired by all! The colorful and vibrant designs and the elegant thread work grab one’s attention right away.

Because hand embroidery is not practiced in many countries, Vinuta hopes to work with designers from many nations to teach students and promote the knowledge of Indian Aari Embroidery and keep the craft alive!
