The artist within
Vishal says, “I lost my father when I was barely seven years old. My mother took up the responsibility of raising my brother and me evenhandedly. Ever since I was a kid, I was passionate about dancing and wanted to pursue it professionally. But our financial conditions only burned a hole through our pockets.
Fast forward to a few years, I was working at a coffee shop, but soon, I quit my job there. Instead, I started auditioning for different dance shows and ended up getting rejected every time. When I was about to give up, my mother and a friend, Minku, held me together. With the help of their pep talks and constant encouragement, I decided to keep it together.
On rejection, I volunteered for these shows to study how they operated internally. I worked day-in and day-out, and finally, the efforts paid off. I worked as a crew in *Dance India Dance Season*. I felt delighted to work with them as it gave wings to my dreams. This one big break in my life led to another, and I was soon working for different shows. Many esteemed shows like Dance India Dance, Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, KBC, India’s Got Talent, MasterChef, Dance+, Roadies, etc. saw me as a Production Head or an Assistant Choreographer.
I had to travel a lot for these jobs. As my work was Mumbai-based, I decided to shift there. Life took a turn, and gradually, I achieved everything I had always dreamt of having. My love for my profession and the city only grew as I embraced the city and the opportunities it had to offer with an open heart.
Today, I’m not just a dancer; I am an actor, a choreographer, and an event planner. But most importantly, I am an artist.
I had my share of struggles. Therefore, I am working to create a platform where people can get to learn, grow, work, and meet their dreams. My community is a platform for all the local artists to perform and showcase their talent to the world. I believe that each one of us is a hidden artist. A bit of courage and encouragement can make us do wonders in our lives.”
