Yusuf Hussain, veteran actor, dies at 73 of COVID
Yusuf Hussain, veteran actor, passes away at the age of 73. The veteran actor breathed his last today at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. Yusuf had been receiving treatment for COVID at the hospital and succumbed to the illness today morning, informed son-in-law and filmmaker Hansal Mehta to the news agencies.
When was the late actor tested positive is unknown as of now. However, he was moved and admitted to Lilavati Hospital due to COVID related complications.
Hansal Mehta is the director and son-in-law of Yusuf Hussain. He has directed many movies like Shahid, Omerta and the hit show Scam 1992.
Hansal Mehta, who is married to daughter of the late actor, Safeena, penned a heartfelt emotional note on twitter.
Hansal Mehta, director of Scam 1992, said how he has been “truly orphaned today”.
“Not my father-in-law but a father. He was life if life itself had to have a physical form. Today he is gone,” Mehta wrote
While shooting for the movie Shahid (2012), Hansal hit a roadblock financially and was “almost completely finished”. That’s when his father-in-law rescued him and wrote a cheque to Hansal, recalls the grieving filmmaker.
Further, Mehta thanks Yusuf for his “new life”.

Yusuf Hussain was born in 1948 in Punjab, India.
The late actor has donned many characters over the years. A few memorable appearances being in movies like Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Dhoom 2 (2006), Raees (2017) among others.
Yusuf Hussain has also performed in the long running TV show CID on SONY.
Yusuf Hussain recently was working in the movie Bob Biswas. The movie also features Abhishek Bachchan. The actors have also shared a screen before. They worked for the movie Kuch Na Kaho together in 2003.
Abhishek Bachchan mourned the demise of the veteran actor on his twitter account.
“#RIP Yusuf ji. We worked together in several films starting with Kuch na kaho and lastly on Bob Biswas. He was gentle, kind and full of warmth. Condolences to his family.”

Known for TV shows like Special Ops and Anil Kapoor starrer 24 and films like Page 3, 2 States, Hate Story, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Aarakshan, Murder 2, The Ghazi Attack among others, actor Bikramjeet Kanwarpal passed away on May 1 due to Covid-19 complications. He was 52.
The second wave of Covid-19 also claimed the life of Kannada filmmaker Naveen at the age of 36, who breathed his last in his hometown Madhya recently after he tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Naveen made his debut as a director with Oneday in 2011.
In another untimely death, Well-known journalist Rohit Sardana, who was working with Aaj Tak passed away in the second wave of coronavirus. He died of cardiac arrest after he tested positive for covid. He was fighting for his life in ICU. A day before his death, he sought help for patients on Twitter. He was 42.
