Zitara – A Passion that turned Dreamy

Zitara is quite literally my Aankhon ka tara. “Ever since I can remember jewelry was my ultimate love. As a little girl I’d fondly collect all the possible accessories that I could. However, it wasn’t until college when I realized ‘Jewelry wasn’t just a hobby of mine.’

Graduating from Architecture I only had one thought ‘I am not meant for designing buildings but jewelry’. However, life had different plans. Even before I could start laying the groundwork for my own brand, CAT applications appeared. And just like any other graduates’ family, my parents wanted me to pursue an MBA.

‘Pehle CAT likhde, then you can work on your brand. An MBA will help you more with the business’ they said. I agreed.  Despite having ‘the plan’ I put it all aside and prepared for the entrance. Months later, the day arrived and CAT was done!

The next thing I know, I was in the market sourcing for raw materials to start my jewelry line. I had no designs planned, I had no idea what I’d purchase; all I knew was ‘Mujhe yahi karna hai’. And that very moment Zitara was born!

Within no time the raw materials converted into jewelry, and the family that once asked me to choose MBA over my brand was now helping me with the manufacturing and packing! The dream of having my own jewelry line came to life.

But then, life took yet another turn. My CAT results were out, I got admitted into one of the top B-schools in Ahmedabad. Moving there meant I had to leave Zitara behind.

Instead, I decided to juggle between Jaipur and Ahmedabad. While I’d do the photoshoots and designing in college, the packing and delivery were handled by my siblings back home. Managing everything on calls, not being able to have a first-hand look at most of the product’s and getting the work done even during the semester exams; all of it did feel overwhelming at times. But hearing my college mates say ‘It’s not the MBA that makes you a businesswoman but Zitara’ would make up for all the hard work.

‘Jewellery is the price possession for a woman and for a businesswoman her brand is the price possession.’ To me, Zitara is not just a brand I own but an identity that I proudly associate myself with. In simple words, Zitara is quite literally my Aankhon ka tara.”
